In my family we have a Christmas tradition called the Giving Tree. Each year we'd write down on little slips of paper something that we would do or make for each family member. When we were younger there was a lot of bed-making, and letting-you-play-with-my-toys type gifts. But today, as part of the Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day, I'm extending our family's Giving Tree tradition to the blogosphere and giving away a handmade apron!
What's up for grabs? I'm giving away the pink apron pictured above on the left. It's made with fabric from Amy Butler's Daisy Chain collection and trimmed with green grosgrain ribbon.

This year we are doing a handmade Christmas, this helps us think more about the present we give, and puts me in a giving mood!
Love the apron. Perfect with my newe green kitchen!
Lovely apron giveaway! Thank you for participating. The kids like to make ornaments, paper gifts like snowflakes to give away. We've done the baked dough, felt, and this year some crochet...though my son isn't into the crochet. :D I still have some interesting painted ornaments on our tree this year. Love them!
Stop by my blog for a chance to win my giveaway as well! Merry Christmas!!
Beautiful apron! making presents with my kids to giveaway has been lots of fun.
So pretty Leah. You are so talented!

Oh I would love an apron!! I need one!
A family tradition would be eating eggs benedict every cmas morning!!
Thanks for the great giveaway!

I think our favorite holiday tradition is tree trimming night. All of us trim the tree together while eating snacks and drinking eggnog. My kids and husband look forward to it all year. Funny how it can be the most simple of things that sticks with them the most.
We always read the Christmas story from the Bible. Very cute apron!
I really want to win this! howdoweboilwater.email(at)gmail(dot)com
You know I love a good Leah apron. Girl, you should start your own business. Ok, favorite family tradition: the kids help us choose an "angel" off the parish Christmas tree, we purchase the gift and then they help us deliver it. kathryn_whitaker(at)hotmail(dot)com
So pretty! My son draws a picture for our tree topper. When Santa drops of the gifts he takes the picture and places something Santa-y (his hat, a letter from Mrs. C, a reindeer bell, something..) My son loves it. And mommy uh Santa gets a nice keepsake each year. I think when he's older I'll frame the pictures he drew over the years and use them in my holiday decorations. :) Hope you have a good Christmas!

Love that apron! I always have my kids to take the time to pick out gifts for family members. Some times they are handmade, sometimes just well thought through!
One family tradition that I have been doing since I was a child and now do with my children is an advent calendar. I even have the original felt calendar with bags that my mom would put a treat in each day for the month when I was a kid.
My boys look forward to this ever year. While we eat the treat, we read a scripture, sing a Christmas song, and read a Christmas story.
I love Leah's aprons! Pick me!! pick me!!
Lovely apron!! Thank you and Merry Christmas!
lee_nicholas@hotmail.com
We always read the Christmas story and stop to sing the corresponding carols, everyone standing around the piano.
One day we'll do it...when we have a piano!
Hugs. Christina
Very pretty way to bake Christmas cookies. Thanks for the giveaway!
Hooray for giveaways and cute aprons and awesome friends. :)
Favorite traditions - reading Christmas stories with my kids every night.
Hooray for Leah's aprons! We always acted out the Nativity story with my family. Everyone's favorite year was when my dad consented to play the donkey. Hilarious. Although the addition of my BIL as Samuel the Lamanite and my mother and her sister as the slightly too malicious attacking Nephites throwing stuff at him a couple of years ago was also a good one...
Xoxo Leah Claire!
super pretty apron :)
That apron is so cute!
celestespaans@gmail.com
Hmm . . . in general we limit the gift-giving so we can focus on spending time together and not make Christmas all about presents (because obviously it's not).
Love your tradition! And the apron. :)

Hi Leah,
We have a lot of Christmas traditions, but over time it has changed a bit as my sisters have children and they have started some traditions of their own. I guess my favorite is perhaps our christmas breakfast. My mom always makes her sausage and egg casserole and then there is her coffee cake, which is the BEST! After we load up our plates with tastey goodness, we go into the living room to eat breakfast around the tree. Usually there is christmas music on the stereo. It is a nice way to bring in the holiday and relax before the opening of gifts!
Beautiful apron. Thanks for the giveaway!
I never say no to a cute apron!! I could use a new one too--mine has taken a beating with all my holiday baking! :)
Well one of my favorite things to do at holiday time is to play Sleigh Ride with my sister!

I LOVE that apron! What a great giveaway!
I don't know if I have a family tradition, but I try and do something every year - last year I gave blood, this year I plan to make the burly men up at the local mechanics some shortbread (they're lovely fellows).
I love that pretty apron! My favorite family tradition is making a handmade nativity each Christmas. Some are edible gingerbread nativities. Others are crayon drawings. This year I hope to make either felt finger puppets or tree ornaments.

Lovely apron. My favorite tradition is making holiday crafts with my kids.
Very cute apron! I'd love to win! I try to teach the spirit of giving to my daughter by taking time to think of fun gifts we can make and take to our friends. :-) Thanks so much!
Hi Leah!
This year we started what I hope will be a new tradition at the Art Museum. Instead of each buying a $10 gift card to swap with each other, I thought instead we could each contribute $10 toward a charity. My idea was Heifer International because all of our money together would be enough to buy a goat, sheep or pig. Sadly, I missed the holiday lunch today because Eliza is sick so I don't know which one they chose...
SUPER cute apron!
xo Jennifer
Wow, I love aprons, just bought the 2 numbers of apronology.
What a treat! Your aprons are beautiful! One of my favorite traditions with my children is that we read Christmas stories with only the lights on the tree to read by, they love it! As extended family we go to my grandparents grave, sing songs and even play instruments:)
How pretty! I love aprons and this fabric is beautiful! ♥
I would look so cute in the pretty pink apron!

OOOH I love this!!!
My family tradition to keep the giving is a couple of things...
the little IOU coupon books - because I was the youngest and still wanted to give my own gifts and so that started - but I still do them now because they are always well recieved and useful.
working at a soup kitchen on Thanksgiving day.
and celebrating Little Christmas (the epiphany) on Jan 6 elongates the season too

Thanks for the chance!
I love this apron! Thanks for the giveaway! Our tradition is lots of family time! We are a new family, so we are setting new traditions. One will be giving something every year, like gifts to Toys for Tots, Food Shelf donations, our time to a charity, etc. It's important to give, and I want our children to learn that.
megancparsons@gmail.com
The year that my husband proposed (he proposed on Christmas Eve) we started a tradition of going out into the forest and cutting down our own Christmas tree. Even now, living in the Northern prairie, we went up to the "high country" and found ourselves a cute little Charlie Brown Christmas tree.
Thanks for the great giveaway! :)
Lovely, lovely, lovely
thanks

We take homemade "treats" to neighbors & businesses that we frequent :)
My family tradition is playing Christmas Tree Hunt on the way home from Grandma's. Even though I'm nearly 30 and my brother is 17 we still count all the Christmas decorations on our side of the car just like we did when we were little.
Our biggest family tradition is definitely decorating the tree...even when i was in university and my folks had to wait until Christmas Eve to do, since I was out of town. So excited to decorate with my husband and daughter this year - it will be her first Christmas!
Great giveaway!

All though I no longer have any "helpers" to keep up with ALL the advent calendars, a favorite tradition of our family has always been to count down the days until Christmas with a variety of advent calendars--from The Beary Christmas one to the Peanuts character one.
It's a really cute apron!
Pick me! Pick me! I do not yet own a Leah Claire original!!! Lots of love! It looks so fabulous!

Hey, Miss Popular! Remember I'm your biggest fan. . .
You know even though my family keeps growing and getting bigger and bigger, we have resisted the "draw a name/family" to give gifts to. We like to give a little something to all the family!
Our family tradition is cookie baking. It started while my husband and I were engaged. My mother-in-law and her mom invited me to her annual cookie baking and each year baking and delivering cookies keeps that spirit of giving alive. (And when I say bake, those ladies bake; our record is 182 dozen.) Thanks so much for the giveaway.
Such a cool apron!!
family tradition- we have few... we make a secret handmade gift and the person receiving has to guess which family member made it. we also do family skits which help us develop our talents or laugh about how bad we sing/dance or act!
Enjoy this special time of year with your family- Merry Christmas all the way from Australia :)
As a family, we donate time and needed items to a local animal shelter. Thanks for playing!

Hi there, Beautiful apron. Thanks for the chance to win! My giving tradition is to always donate to World Vision, either directly, or as a gift to someone else. Last year instead of buying my co-workers little gifts, I just made one large donation to World Vision and printed up Thank You cards to everyone to let them know how they had helped. It was pretty cool. :)
I love the apron! We always do handmade gifts for our immediate family members. It gets us really thinking about them and what they would appreciate. Thanks for the great giveaway!

What a lovely apron! Thank you for sharing with us. :)
Christmas was always such a huge deal in our house when I was a child...and something my husband would rather not have to deal with once I became an adult. (He's very anti-commercialism and had a lot of trouble realizing that it could be a big deal without being about material items.) Now that we have little ones, Christmas is a pretty big deal again, but we're still finding our traditions.
Since commercialism is out in our house, almost all of our gifts are handmade, and a lot of thought goes into the ones that are purchased. Our kids are still too little for service projects, but we like to help others where we're able. I like to think that that will continue as tradition for us. :)
We love to walk around checking out the chrissy lights on a hot summer evening with a beer!! YAY...
xo Steph
Hi!
Great giveaway!
Merry Christmas!
Tanks.
Gorgeous giveaway, and I love your idea for the giving tree - I think I will have to start that with our little poppets :)

We like to act out the nativity each year :)
Really pretty colours!
thank you for this chance, I hope to help more in my mother's house. hugs
Very sweet apron!
One of our traditions that's recently expanded a little is giving stockings - my mum and dad always filled stocking for my sister and I, but a few years ago we started returning the favour. Now my sister doesn't visit my parents on Christmas Day, but my mum still posts her a stocking and we open them together on Skype (at a fairly ridiculous hour, as was always the case!).
Thank you for the chance to win your gorgeous apron.
thanks for the chance!
Love Amy Butler fabric. Such a pretty apron.
I love that you hung up your apron on the silverware! We make plates of goodies and go caroling to keep the Spirit of giving alive.

One of our family traditions is a "goofy grabbag" where everyone wraps up something useful that he or she no longer needs/wants. The sillier, the better--last year I gave the etched wedding champagne flutes from my wedding (I'm divorced now). It was a HUGE hit!
Making cookies with my grandmother! Thanks for the generous giveaway!
We always sponser a needy family.
thanks for a great givaway.
I love to play out the Christmas story with the children and their nativity set

Beautiful apron, great colors! A family tradition for us is going to the Christmas Eve service then coming home for a big family meal, then opening one present that night.
one of my favorite traditions is to get together and bake lots of cookies- great messy fun and good eating too!
Pretty apron! As a kid we always made gingerbread houses. As an adult, I've tried to carry on that tradition and have my friends and their kids over to make them. It really is a nice way to start the holiday season - spending time with family and friends.
Reading the advent story is what helps our family stay in the spirit. Thanks for the giveaway!
We exchange names and choose or make an ornament for our person.
What a gorgeous apron! Love the pink and green colour combination. :-)
We make Christmas stockings at Christmas time - one of Dad's socks (yep, we still use the old-school socks!) filled with little gifts for each person. Lots of fun, dipping in and seeing what you'll pull out!

I dunno if it's really tradition but we try and focus on Christ and no so much and being selfish during the holidays, and we take lots of joy in all the little handmade gifts the kids make for everyone. :) Thanks for the chance to win!

For the spirit I let my daughter pick out a present for a needy child. This year it is some pajamas and a toy from her list, in addition we craft something. It is quite different to craft for someone you have never met.
And, of course, we craft presents for family members.
That is really cute, very nice work! I adore Amy Butler's fabrics.
i love your wooden navity set! gorgeous! my kids and i have fun trying to make gifts that fit into a toilet paper roll...then we wrap them like British Crackers. we do fabric covered buttons, magnets, hair ties...make some cookies and candies, and other fabric crafts...its fun to gift them to friends and all their cousins!
How pretty... thanks

I think advent calendars keep me in the spirit of giving. I am trying to make our calendar have a fun thing to do or candy for each day. Thanks- lovely blog I enjoyed your nativity post.
All the grandkids go in and give my grandma a donation to heifer international where you buy a goat or sheep. Since my Grandpa died, we've been making it fishing related since he was a fishman.

Well, my parents usually give money to ALL the kids who visit us during the festivals.
hi there! i love your apron. you cana never go wrong with an amy butler fabric, right?
in my family the tradition is everyone takes one shoe off at midnight on xmas eve and everyone else puts their prsents to that person around the shoe. so at one point everyone is hopping around with just one shoe on going to where the other people's shoes are. we always start laughing at this scenario so it makes it so fun to exchange gifts!
Love the apron, thanks for the giveaway!

Beautiful apron. We choose a family or two children to buy Christmas presents for. My kids love doing this and it shows them the true meaning of Christmas.
Such great colors and sewing abilities!
